SCOOTY is a GTA-based micro-mobility company providing affordable access to electric scooters, with a strong focus on integrating with public transit.
Background
I worked with Scooty as a Product Designer, collaborating closely with a PM and engineering team to refine the mobile app experience. My primary contribution was designing a secure payment integration with PRESTO, Ontario’s transit fare system. I led the UX and interface design in Figma, working alongside backend and security stakeholders to ensure the experience met both usability and compliance standards.
Problems Solved
Scooty wanted riders to pay using their PRESTO accounts, not just traditional credit or debit cards. Unlike typical ride-share payments, PRESTO required external authentication, balance verification, and two-factor security. The challenge was designing a flow that protected sensitive user data, handled multiple conditional states, and met security requirements without slowing down a time-sensitive ride experience. The solution needed to feel seamless inside the app while maintaining transit-grade trust and compliance.
The Solution
designed a secure account-linking and authentication flow that guided users through login, two-factor verification, and balance confirmation with clear, trustworthy messaging. The experience accounted for conditional paths such as failed authentication, insufficient balance, expired sessions, and fallback payment methods. Rather than treating this as a single screen, I mapped the underlying decision logic to ensure the integration worked cohesively with ride eligibility, payment processing, and error recovery. The result was a streamlined and secure PRESTO payment experience that strengthened Scooty’s integration with public transit while maintaining clarity and speed for riders.
